I BELIEVE THAT JEWELRY SHOULD HAVE AN EMOTIONAL |
Alpana Gujral is a distinguished jewelry designer from New Delhi, India who has been arduously perfecting her craft for over 25 years. A graduate from the Delhi School of Art, she has worked closely with master craftsmen from Rajasthan to develop her signature style of jewelry – a fusion of traditional styles with contemporary forms. The traditional style, colloquially known as Minakari or enameling, is a unique combination of gems, enamel pigments and precious metals. Each distinctive characteristic brings to life the Mughal vision of ‘Paradise on Earth’ – a celestial garden overflowing with trees, flowers, and burst of colors in a spectrum of hues. The Minakari motifs consist primarily of flowers, plants, scrolling vines and animal forms. Alpana has successfully morphed this traditional art to suit the contemporary, modern woman. Each of Alpana’s collections consists of individually handcrafted and limited edition pieces; an assortment of earrings, necklaces, cuffs, bracelets and rings. Each piece requires four to six months to craft. Her collections have been exhibited and sold in various cities around the world like New York, San Francisco, London, Hong Kong and Dubai. India, however, continues to be her inspiration and mainstay from where she sells to exclusive markets in all major cities. Alpana’s work is frequently described as an alliance of contemporary and classic styles, a mixture of oriental splendor and baroque exuberance, and an innovation in the art of jewelry design. |
